It’s one of those weeks that we have talked about from time to time around here. The weekend where not much is happening on the new movie front. This time around the only new movie is one starring Vin Diesel and features a character that he seems determined to make a franchise despite the fact that ever movie the character has been in has been a box office disappointment. As such, this might be the weekend you catch up on some movies you missed over the summer.
Here’s the movie opening this weekend, September 6, 2013:
Riddick - Vin Diesel, Katee Sackhoff, Jordi Molla. Diesel first portrayed the intergalactic killer known as Riddick in the horror film Pitch Black. In that movie we learned that Riddick was a wanted man and had altered his eyes with bionic implants that allowed him to see in the dark. We also learned he was a very adept man at killing things. The movie did moderately well in theaters, then grew a following on DVD. The following was enough the Diesel returned to the role in the Riddick-centric movie The Chronicles of Riddick. Despite the hype and big budget, that movie pretty much tanked at the box office, but once again the character proved to be resilient when it came to cable and DVD audiences. Now, Diesel has returned, this time almost willing the character back to the big screen. In this outing, the character finds himself stranded on a planet filled with creatures that want to kill him, while also being chased by bounty hunters that either want to do the same or capture him for a reward. Can Riddick survive before a huge storm hits and kills them all? Rated R.
