And you, little one, shall be called a prophet of the Most High; for you shall go on before the face of the Lord to make ready His ways, [Isa. 40:3; Mal. 4:5.] To bring and give the knowledge of salvation to His people in the forgiveness and remission of their sins. (Luke 1:76, 77 AMP)
Isaiah 40:3 A voice of one who cries: Prepare in the wilderness the way of the Lord [clear away the obstacles]; make straight and smooth in the desert a highway for our God!
There was another baby born before Jesus to always behold God's face. He would keep God's face in front of him so that he would prophecy perfectly and humbly. He would put rose petals of beauty and honor on Jesus' path to make the people more ready for Him to touch deep in their hearts. He would preach salvation and forgiveness. He preached remission of sins to prepare the people for the cross and how it's the only moment in time that was hell itself clashing with good. God poured His anger on our sin so that we could be pure.
A voice of one who cries... Sometimes the message we have from God is painful to deliver. Sometimes it comes from our own pain. Often God allows us to be broken to deliver His words more passionately and tenderly. At certain times the message breaks the heart of the people we love and it's difficult to speak. John cried out the message he was given. He was the little one, prophet of the Most High.
