Have you lost weight so many times you can’t count, yet you can’t seem to keep the pounds from finding their way back to your body? Are you tired of the frustrating roller coaster ride of losing a few pounds and gaining them back, usually leaving you weighing more than when you first started?
If so, you aren’t alone. Weight loss is a billion dollar industry for a good reason. It’s something that seems so simple but manages to elude the best of us. So, what’s the key to weight loss that most everyone is missing but, if used, all but guarantees permanent weight loss success?
Ask yourself this: when you decide to lose weight, what’s the first thing you do? You change your behaviors, right? You eat better and start to exercise. And, even if you get great results following this type of program, you don’t stick with it long enough to enjoy the benefits of this type of lifestyle. Why?
It’s not because you don’t have strong enough willpower or are doing things ‘wrong’ so quit blaming yourself. It’s actually a flaw in the weight loss process that most professionals seem to ignore. And unfortunately it’s a flaw that has cost millions of people billions of dollars in their attempt to find a healthy weight, not to mention the frustration and aggravation along the way.
What is the flaw?
If you try to drop weight by changing yourself from the outside first, you’re doomed for failure. It doesn’t matter if you have the best personal trainers or a top notch dietician planning your meals, because any progress you make will only be temporary in nature.
It’s like painting a car that is starting to rust. You can put a fresh coat of red lacquer on it to make it look all shiny and new, but the rust will soon start to show through the finish. It’s just a matter of time.
Sure, you can continue painting it every few months to hide the spot every time it rears its ugly head. But, as any auto body repair business will tell you, the only way to solve the problem permanently is to remove the rusty panel and replace it with strong, sturdy metal.
Such is true when it comes to overeating. First, you have to figure out the root cause of your weight. In other words, you have to isolate the rusty panel. Once you’ve discovered the reason you go to food when you’re not physically hungry, it’s time to replace that panel in your life.
Let go of the problem causing spot that is doing nothing but deteriorating your body and soul and replace it with something stronger and more positive. Something that professes strength, determination and sheer power.
When you embark on this journey, give yourself time to go through the process. If you’ve used food to avoid emotions or deter negative feelings for years upon years, you’re probably very good at it and it may take a while to uncover what lies behind your overeating.
How best to determine the root cause if you’re truly unsure? Talk to a friend that is willing to be honest with you. He or she may have some insight about you that you’re failing to recognize.
Another option is to hire a personal development coach. This is an objective person that can help you figure out what hurdles you face when it comes to reaching your goals and work with you to come up with ways to overcome them. Basically, it’s someone that helps you problem solve, encourages you to reach your maximum potential and teaches you how to develop your strengths and lessen your weaknesses.
Once you learn the reason behind your weight, then and only then will you be able to make changes to your outer behaviors. And, when you do, they will be life long and give you the permanent results you so desperately crave and so whole heartedly deserve.
Change your inside and you will definitely change your outside. It’s basic science. Where your head goes, your body follows. It’s time to lead them both in the right direction.
