Friday the 13th is normally associated with strange happenings of an unpleasant kind. It was not the case at the Olive Grove Restaurant in Bowie tonight. With bright holiday decorations and a festive mood, the ambiance at the metro area’s newest great seafood location was marked with friendly conversation and families spending quality time together after a long work week.
It is difficult to image the dark empty space that stood in the lot for almost two years after the former tenants moved away. The owner of the Olive Grove has created establishment that not only offers the best crab cakes in the metro area; moreover, the veteran restaurant owner has instilled a sense of customer service in his employees that begins as customer walk through the door and continues until they exit the building.
The customer care that is displayed at the Olive Grove has an origin that is as sincere as the man who opened the restaurant 20 years ago in Baltimore.
The owner of the Olive Grove spent nearly a decade refining the lessons his mother taught him in preparing dishes that has made the restaurant a favorite among seafood lovers. “My mother taught me to cook. I traveled to Greece every winter to bring her to America. She is with me now after 20 years of travelling back and forth to Greece to have her with me. She is ninety. I am the youngest but my brothers were here. I came here in 1985. Greeks love cooking to begin with and my mom, Kalliopi, was a great cook,” Owner Spyros Mamalis said in an exclusive interview with Examiner.com.
Charleston, South Carolina, is known for its great seafood. Having spent summers on the beaches there going back to 1974, the present writer has a taste for great crab cakes that is not easily satisfied. The Olive Grove leaves nothing to be desired with the most favorable, artfully prepared, crab cakes in the Washington area.
The customers interviewed said the crab cakes are delicious. However, there are some restaurants with great food and very poor customer service. The Olive Grove has excellent customer service. “Customer Service is number one. Obviously, if it weren't for our customers we would not be here. Everything we do is about our customers. And that is what we tell our managers and that is what we tell every person who works in our restaurant,” Mamalis said. It is clear that all customers are appreciated at the Olive Grove.
The Olive Grove Restaurant opened its new its new located in the Hilltop Plaza on November 13, 2013. After one month of operation word is spreading fast about the great food and great customer service. Remember there is plenty of parking in the area in the back of the shopping center. If the front of the restaurant is full, as it was tonight, just drive a few feet and there is a vast parking area close to the restaurant.
