I recently had lunch at one of my favorite restaurants in the Madison, WI area - The Old Feed Mill located in Mazomanie, WI. It's a 20 mile scenic drive to Mazomanie on highway 14 to the historic building, which dates back to the 1850's when it began as a flouring mill.
I decided to enjoy a cup of tea along with my lunch. The waitperson was a lovely young woman and did a fantastic job, being that it was only her fourth day at work.
I was provided with an eight ounce cup sitting on top of a saucer, along with a small tea pot that contained enough hot water for 1 1/2 cups and an assortment of teas. As I looked through the varieties of tea I saw various brands and flavors. I decided to go with the usual Bigelow green tea to pair with my grilled chicken breast sandwich.
I poured the water into the cup and let it steep for three to five minutes to make sure the flavor was at its peak. Then I removed the tea bag from my cup and placed it in the small tea pot with the remaining water.
The water was very hot and brought out the flavor of the tea nicely. It was a good complement with the grilled chicken breast sandwich.
The Old Feed Mill restaurant offers a variety of soups, salads, entrees, desserts and drinks to enjoy. There is also a small bar area and a gift shop.
Even if you don't want to eat at The Old Feed Mill, it is a great get-away to sit and relax with a hot cup of tea. Outside sitting is also available during the summer months.
If you are a history buff ask to speak to the owner, Nancy, and she will be happy to provide you with the history of the building.
