New York is filled with entertainment options for the kids. The best has just arrived though! Performing at the Daryl Roth Theater is The Ohmies, a show like none other. If you are looking to take the kids to a show where they can learn yoga, Spanish, cooperation, stress management, vocabulary, health, wellness and more, The Ohmies is it.
The Ohmies is a highly interactive performance that engages children and requires their participation. The children who attend the performance not only learn the yoga poses of the Sun Salutation, but they dance, sing, have fun, and stretch their minds and imaginations. The Ohmies was created by Laurie Miller and Ben Tollefson as a result of their expertise in theater and performing arts combined with their passion for health and wellness. As a child, Laurie was in a car accident that left her injured. Through yoga, she was rehabilitated, sparking her desire to train as a yoga instructor. With such passion, she and Ben have now brought yoga and breathe to children everywhere in a fun and exciting way. There is no doubt that The Ohmies will be a very popular health and wellness brand in the same way Sesame Street is an education brand.
During the The Ohmies, Bella the Butterfly and Carlin the Caterpillar embark on a journey to get to Mr. Sun so he can assist them in growing their wish garden. Along the way, they meet with Sylvio Snake, Gisbert Grasshopper, and Daisy Dog. All of the characters are adorable and engaging. Bella the Butterfly captivates children with her voice and magnetic smile, Carlin the Caterpillar engages the kids with his cute expressions, and each of the other characters have their own little quirks that cause kids to give them their full attention.
In addition to the beautiful set design which includes vibrant colors, an attention-grabbing sparkly moon, and an appearance by a bright, radiating sun, TiDo Bird plays live music throughout the show. The Broadway-caliber singing and acting make the show award-winning and memorable for kids.
The show includes some of the best ideas from modern children's programs including the map that Bella and Carlin continuously refer to and the dancing shoes that the kids need to point out to the actors. The Ohmies teaches kids both vocabulary words such as canine and serpent and features a song in Spanish along with several other Spanish words. With recurring lines such as "every adventure is a dream when we work as a team" and "laugh, dance, sing and shake off the worries," children also get the importance of cooperation and how they can learn to relax. Most importantly, The Ohmies gets kids moving. There is no other show in the city where you will see all of the children engaged in the show as they sing, dance, stretch, and laugh as they participate from their spaces on fitness mats in front of the stage.
