First let us take a moment to thank our friends at profootballtalk.com for finding these numbers.
Let us now take a look at the potential fall out of an uncapped 2010 NFL season, and the corner the players are painting themselves into if they fail to reach an agreement on a new Collective Bargaining Agreement before the March deadline. Gratned if they had to go get real jobs the compensation would not be nearly as much.
If there is no CBA extension teams will have a franchise tag, and a transition tag to use this off season to retain their players. A franchise tag guarantees the player a contract worth the average of the top five players at his position, and transition tag guarantees him a one year deal worth the average of the top ten players at his position.
So here is a look at what the average of for each position, under each tag would be:
| Position | Franchise Tag Number | Transition Tag Number |
| QB | 16.405 Million | 14.456 Million |
| RB | 8.156 Million | 7.151 Million |
| WR | 9.521 Million | 8.651 Million |
| TE | 5.908 Million | 5.248 Million |
| O-Line | 10.731 Million | 9.142 Million |
| DE | 12.398 Million | 10.193 Million |
| DT | 7.003 Million | 6.353 Million |
| LB | 9.680 Million | 8.373 Million |
| CB | 9.566 Million | 8.056 Million |
| Safety | 6.455 Million | 6.011 Million |
| K/P | 2.814 Million | 2.629 Million |
