The current recession started some time in 2008 and as a result of the increased taxes and regulations under the Barack Obama Regime, it turns into a depression some time during 2009 or 2010. One of the major trends caused by the Obama Regime's economic policies is the massive shrinking of the private sector in general, which is also shown by the decrease in the Labor Force Participation Rate, measured by the Department of Labor, that has fallen to its lowest level since the Great Depression.
One of the most visible signs of severe economic decline is in the closing of commercial retail businesses, especially the vacating and closing of several large shopping malls that has occurred during this “great recession.”
Located in Akron, Ohio, the Rolling Acres Mall once contained 140 stores in about 1.3 million square feet of retail space. It finally closed in 2011, you can view a recent video of the place from YouTube.com that shows how quickly it has declined since being abandoned two years ago. This is graphic footage of the real consequences of the Obama depression.
Not far from that in Northwood, Ohio was a shopping center called Woodville Mall, that closed in December 2011 after their “grand reopening” early that year failed. This video was taken during that grand reopening, and you can see how dead it was. There were hardly any shoppers, and it appears that half the stores in that mall were already closed.
The dying Metro North Mall near Kansas City, Missouri once including 125 stores in 1.3 million square feet of retail space now seems to host maybe a dozen remaining stores at best. As you can see in this video, as well as this video, there are hardly any open stores left in the place.
Another almost dead mall claimed by the Obama depression is the Crossroads Mall in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. This video, recorded in 2011, shows it was almost dead and had very few stores left in it. It is reportedly being re-developed at this time.
The Crestwood Court next St. Louis, in Crestwood, Missouri, is now closed and one had space for 157 store in about one million square feet of retail space. The few remaining stores were evicted last year, shortly after this video was recorded, which shows even then the mall was mostly empty. The maker of the video reported the place was scheduled for demolition and redevelopment.
One of the largest dying if not dead malls is Cincinnati Mills, now renamed Forest Fair Village, near Cincinnati, Ohio, that once had space for hundreds of stores in about 1.5 million square feet of retail space. Wikepedia reports it currently has five stores and considers it a dead mall. This video, taken earlier this year, shows there is very little activity and very few open stores in the place.
The Westminster Mall in Westminster, Colorado, closed in 2011 and was demolished earlier this year. It once had 180 stores in 1.2 million square feet of retail space. As you can see from this video taken earlier this year, the mall was almost entirely empty. The Wikipedia article about it says it has one current open store.
Shopping malls like these are still quite popular, but less used by consumers during this depression, who find themselves shopping more at bargain outlets and dollar stores that aren't typically located in the major shopping malls. People spent a lot of time in these places, shopping at the major stores and eating in the restaurants in the food court, and spending money. Consumer spending drives our economy, and during a recession or a depression, consumer spend a lot less money. The rising unemployment during this depression has dramatically reduced consumer spending, which has lead to the closing of so many stores and shopping centers.
View the videos attached, they should open in new windows, and the pictures, and what you're seeing is the images of the Obama depression. Destroying the economy has consequences, and the images you see here show them.
