ICE! is an annual holiday tradition held at the Gaylord Texan Resort featuring two million pounds of ice hand carved into various sculptures to create a visual experience like never before. Last year they were invaded by the animated characters of Dreamworks and while the ICE! theme has changed the fun world of Dreamworks is still represented in force.
This years’ focus for the ICE! exhibit heads in a more classic holiday vision with The Nutcracker. The story is re-told using these beautiful ice sculptures of all the characters and backdrops to bring this story to life. It is an amazing feat to witness as it took 40 artisans from China and is housed in temperatures of 9 degrees to bring this unique experience to life. Prior to entering the cold storage presentation of these awesome sculptures visitors head to a New York style street store to pick up their arctic wear required to experience the exhibit. Once inside you begin your journey through the Nutcracker and while that in itself is amazing to see that’s not all. Once through the main feature theme, you head into a full on ice replica of New York City as well as the Nativity scene that has to be seen to believe as well as a fully functional ice slide.
Prior to entering the ICE! exhibit or once you have finished you can turn your attention to some old school fun with the Dreamworks crew including the Kung Fu Panda themed Awesome Snow Tubing featuring an extreme tubing hill covered in real snow. Both kids and adults just grab your tube and head up the temple steps for high speed fun as you fly down this indoor snow slide. In addition kids and adults alike can get a chance to meet their favorite characters including Shrek, Kung Fu Panda himself Po and Toothless from How To Train Your Dragon.
While all of this is way more than anyone could possibly expect in one venue, outside the Gaylord there is an entire Christmas wonderland for families to enjoy featuring numerous perfect spots for family photos, some amazing over-sized decorations, a full functional train display and of course Santa Clause himself. Inside they offer numerous festive themed treats and even a chance to decorate ginger bread cookies with Gingy himself.
Do not miss your chance to check out this amazing event like only the Gaylord can deliver.
