The nominations for the 85th Academy Awards have been announced

The nominations for the 85th Academy Awards have been announced. The Oscars will be aired on ABC on Sunday, Feb 24.

There are not many surprises in the nominations, with “Lincoln” and “Silver Linings Playbook” obtaining the most nominations in the main categories. The real surprise nomination comes from Quvenzhané Wallis being nominated in the leading actress category. At the age of 9, she is the youngest to be nominated for the leading actress award ever. She is fantastic in the role and rightfully earned a spot in the nominations. “Beasts of the Southern Wild” had been excluded from the Golden Globe nominations and earned four big award nominations, including best picture.

Tarantino (“Django Unchained”) and Kathryn Bigelow (“Zero Dark Thirty”) did not gain nominations for directing, whereas they did garner nominations for the Golden Globes. “Amour” has gained a nomination in the best picture and best foreign language film categories which is rarely ever done. Wes Anderson’s “Moonrise Kingdom” is only nominated for writing, but snubbed from a best picture nomination. In all likeliness, "Lincoln" and "Silver Linings Playbook" will probably win most of the awards. They are both certainly deserving of wins.
