The Noble Birth

Buddha addressed people that he met as “O Nobly Born.” It was his way of validating the existence of another person.

The Gospels cover roughly a three year span of Jesus’ life. If we break it down further they highlight 36 days of his life and about 41 healing miracles. The Apostle John shares that this is just a fragment of the amount of miracles the disciples witnessed.

Over and over again, when Jesus met people he showed them the value they had in the eyes of God. To the woman caught in adultery, he rescued her from her accusers. To the lepers left outside the city gates, he provided healing and acceptance.

To twelve men from very different and divisive backgrounds, he displayed leadership that brought them together in unity.

To others he restored the lives of loved ones; to more he restored sight and broken bodies. Over and over again he left people with the indelible impression that their lives mattered.

Author Josh McDowell, whose books are found at Cleveland's Joseph-Beth books, shared that growing up he had tremendous rage, so much so that he almost killed a man that he got into a fight with. His anger was born of one thing, his hatred towards his father.

His father was the town drunk, but he was not just a laughing stock, he was a dangerous man. He routinely beat Josh’s mother. His own inclination towards violence left scars on the entire family, both physical and emotional.

To escape his home life Josh went to college. It was there he enjoyed debating philosophy and theology as he was a skeptic of both. After meeting some people that challenged him intellectually about his beliefs, he eventually found himself believing that God existed.

One day he found out his father was in the hospital, dying. He went to see him and found his dad crying. His father apologized for how horrible he had been, and asked forgiveness. When Josh said he did forgive him, his dad asked how he could ever do such a thing.

It was then that Josh shared that he had an encounter with the living Christ, and found his own sins forgiven, and now he extended that forgiveness to his wayward father.

In tears his dad surrendered his own life to Christ. He eventually was healed and left the hospital, and spent the next few years of his life reconciling with those he hurt and sharing how God not only healed him physically, but instantly healed him of alcoholism.

This is what happens when a life meets the Author of Life, and realizes they were meant for so much more than to simply drift thru life. This is life in the Kingdom, life on earth as it is in heaven, life in the noble birth.
