Want to become a faster runner but you're not sure how? There are several different ways you can increase your speed but one of my favorite speedwork training runs is what I like to call "no brainer" speedwork because you don't even have to think about it. If you're new to speedwork, keeping it simple is often a great way to start!
All you have to do is incorporate some hills into your run. You can do this on a treadmill or you can find some hills out on the road or on the trails. It's great if you can find a nice section of rolling hills somewhere. This is the simplest form of speedwork that I know of since nothing is measured and you just go out and run without paying any attention to time spent in the speedwork or the rest intervals inbetween.
Some people don't realize that hill training is a form of speedwork but it definitely is. Any time you run outside of the aerobic range that your body is used to, it is a form of speedwork. If you go out and run a hilly course, you can pretty much guarantee that you'll raise your heart rate past what it's normally used to from just your everyday run. This forces your body to adapt, making you a faster runner...not only that, hill training makes you a strong runner and you'll be able to power on up those hills easily in your next race!
