Nike is the biggest collision of sports and fashion. They are innovated and believe that it’s just as important to look great as it is to perform great but the inquiry of a Nike curse is being questioned these days as more and more of their athletes face some of the biggest scandals in sport’s history.
Oscar Pistoriusis is the latest in a string of Nike endorsers to appear at the top of news headlines as he battles to convince a jury in South Africa that he was protecting himself from what he thought was an intruder but turned out to be his girlfriend. Did he kill her in cold blood or was it a horrendous accident?
Although the verdict is not yet in from the jury, Nike’s is! A suspended contract went into effect as Nike released a statement as seen on Reuters that says “We believe Oscar Pistorius should be afforded due process and we will continue to monitor the situation closely.”
In other words, they will not stick by him, but if he is innocent he may get the opportunity to have his contract back.
Nike is a mutli-million dollar company that can afford the best athletes to endorse their products but unfortunately it seems to accompany huge athletic indignities including star athletes like Michael Vick, Lance Armstrong, and Tiger Woods.
Maybe it’s the old saying “more money causes more problems “and Nike definitely can dish out the funds.
