“Bruce, Bruce, Bruce,” the audience chanted in-between songs as Bruce in the USA, a tribute to Bruce Springsteen and the E. Street Band, performed at the Whisky a Go-Go, Monday, March 25 on The World’s Greatest Tribute Bands hosted by Katie Daryl. Touted as “more than just another tribute …” audience members were riveted by the note for note concert-scale performance and enthusiasm for music the band brought to the stage.

The legacy of Bruce Springsteen spans across multiple decades, with a succession of hits about the American working-class, mostly centered on his New Jersey roots. Nicknamed “The Boss”, Springsteen’s success in the 1980s with albums Born in the USA and Born to Run, produced a string of commercially successful hits earning him numerous accolades, including 20 Grammy Awards, two Golden Globes and an Academy Award. As well as his induction into the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame in 1999.

Playing the role of Bruce Springsteen, Matt Ryan began performing as “The Boss,” with the very well known “Legends in Concert” in Las Vegas, NV. In 2004, he formed Bruce in the USA, with a band of seasoned professionals with a long list of credits, some of which include Queen/Paul Rogers, Meatloaf, Blue Oyster Cult, Aretha Franklin, The Temptations, Cyndi Lauper, Slash and more.

With some pretty big shoes to fill, Ryan’s flawless vocal delivery and mannerisms embodied the spirit of Springsteen’s working-class attitude, backed by some heavy hitters in the roles of Steven Van Zandt, played by guitarist Matthew Sully and the late Clarence Clemons played by saxophonist Dave McLaurin; the stage was complete. Perhaps the most moving performance of the night was the song “Jungleland”, with a tribute to the “Big Man” Clarence Clemons, when Dave McLaurin played a soulful and heartfelt sax solo to a receptive audience.

Springsteen fans have embraced Bruce in the USA wherever they play, even in Asbury Park, NJ where they’ve been met with critical acclaim by even the most diehard of Springsteen fans.
