The next generation speaks out at Humane Lobby Day

As part of their project supporting animal rights, the eighth graders of De Paul School of Louisville joined the animal activists in Frankfort KY at the capitol for Humane Lobby Day. On Feb. 20 they asked their representatives tough questions about animal laws in Kentucky.

The students went to the capitol armed with knowledge and prepared to ask questions and offer suggestions on ways to make life better for animals in Kentucky. They wanted to know why bills banning dog fighting have not been passed. Tougher punishment for convicted animal abusers was also requested. These students displayed a tremendous compassion for animals in need of help.

While at the Humane Lobby Day not only did the eighth graders get to meet their law makers, they saw first-hand the result of Kentucky’s lax animal cruelty laws. They met Frodo, a pit bull who was used as a bait dog and rescued by The Arrow Fund. In spite of the horrendous abuse that Frodo suffered, he basked in the attention and affection e received from the students.

During the rally following he lobbying the eighth graders held up signs calling for an end to dog fighting in Kentucky. They made their voices heard, and spoke out for animals that have no voice. Standing alongside like-minded adults they demanded change. The future looks a little brighter for animals in Kentucky because the next generation is taking an interest.
