Premium channel HBO has been cleaning up and reorganizing their program line up this week. After canceling the supernatural drama “True Blood” earlier this week, Collider announces that “The Newsroom” has been renewed for a third season on Wednesday, September 4.
Just in time, as “The Newsroom” is on its final two episode of Season 2, star Jeff Daniels revealed the news that the political drama show will be back for Season 3 in a tweet, “It’s Official. #Newsroom coming back for a Season 3.”
However, no official press release from HBO has been released, but the source doubts that Jeff Daniels would announce the renewal if it wasn’t official.
This comes after news that HBO has canceled “True Blood” after seven seasons. The official release reads:
True Blood has been nothing short of a defining show for HBO. Alan Ball took the books by Charlaine Harris, assembled a brilliant cast led by the magnificent Anna Paquin in the role of Sookie Stackhouse, and crafted a show that has taken its many devoted fans on an unforgettable journey. Alan passed the baton to Brian Buckner, who led our fantastic writers and crew in crafting a spectacular sixth season, and he will lead us through the seventh and final season of this amazing show. Together with its legions of fans, it will be hard to say goodbye to the residents of Bon Temps, but I look forward to what promises to be a fantastic final chapter of this incredible show.
“True Blood” Season 7 will premiere in summer 2014.
No date for the return of “The Newsroom” Season 3 has yet been announced.
