The new 'Script'

While the clock ticks down to this months Hollywood music awards here's another Irish band about to release a debut single and album who may , just like The Script, very well find themselves on the shortlists for countless International music awards over the coming twelve months.  The Dirty 9's are yet another among a whole new fresh generation of world class bands to join the cream of Irelands independants and wow the musical world with their sheer talent.

Like many of Irelands bands and labels it seems that the nations buses have had a big part to play in the formation of the band ( ...The Meteor Award winning 'Ham Sandwich'  ,who have also released a new single 'Out Of The Darkness' on iTunes this week, named their very own Route109 Record label after the bus route from Dublin to Kells). The story  began when the schoolchildren of the Dublin suberb of Blanchardstown rode to school each morning. Every day they would take the number thirty nine bus, which was famously called 'the dirty nine' by  local children and adults who would often write phrases like 'clean me' with their fingers in the soot and dirt laden paintwork while queing to get on board. When a handfull of those same schoolchildren found themselves forming a band at university a few years later their Blanchardstown connection seemed to make 'The Dirty 9's' as the most obvious choice for a name that would stand out just as much as their music does...and in a musical industry  and world of soot and dust laden labels and sound their own bright and clear sound stands out against the grain just as clearly as the words 'clean me!' did on that number thirty nine bus all those years ago.

The bands musical style has often been compared to 'The Script' and even, apparently, the 1970's new wave rock of The Undertones but the bands debut album 'Stop Screaming, Start Dreaming', due out soon, will undoubtedly prove to all that they have their own unique and exceptional sound that many will soon seek to emulate. The debut single from the forthcoming album is Lucy Opus and will be available worldwide via iTunes and Download music I.E. from midnight tonight in Ireland and by 5pm today Pacific Standard Time. The singles hauntingly beautiful 'B'side (which could just as easily be released as an 'A'side )  'Weeknight Lovers' as well as 'Look To The Left' are currently streaming via their MySpace  all of which will be featured on the new album too.

Two other bands lucky enough to share a stage with the Dirty 9's in recent weeks have been EMI's own recent big Irish signing 'Codes'  and Dublin indie band Planet Parade whose front man Michael Hopkins just happens to be the younger cousin of Frames and Swell Season drummer Graham Hopkins (who will be sharing his talents with LA locals on 'The Strict Joy'  Swell Season Tour next week).Planet Parades own debut ep was released at the end of October with an album due out early in 2010. For those of you who who either can't afford the airfare to Dublin to catch up on the best or latest of Irelands bands and for those of you who may well have missed out on tickets to the Swell Season, you can allways catch some of the Celtic flavour by checking in on LA's very own authentic and resident Dublin indie rock band LA Rocca who have been serving up their own special blend of Irish rock in the city scince signing to Dangerbird in 2005.
