The new location could be near Marquette University just outside the downtown city limits. The two sites proposed are northeast of the newly built Potawatomi Hotel & Casino on 13th street and West Canal Street, and 1301 W. Mount Vernon Ave. The first property on 13th and Canal owned by the city of Milwaukee and is currently being used for the department of public work, and the second site on Mount Vernon Avenue that belongs to Keep Greater Milwaukee Beautiful.
According to Josh Zepnick , state democrat that represents part of the Milwaukee Southside, financing for the new facility could come from a new tax incremental finance district and not sales tax increase, the first to suggest the arena outside Downtown Milwaukee limits on the contrary to the current locations suggested at the existing BMO Harris Bradley Center site or near Summer-fest grounds.
The new location of the arena could extend the City of Milwaukee Streetcar project to the area near Marquette University connecting to the Marquette campus and to other major city landmarks. Plans for the new development are to be ready by may of next year as the new stimulus for future and existing nearby developments.
These two locations are narrowed down from the six options presented for Marc Lasry’s, Milwaukee Bucks co-owner by senior Business Journal reporter Rich Kirchen during Lasry’s last visit to Milwaukee. During this visit Lasry also made it clear that he wants plans for the new BMO Harris Bradley Center arena to be complete by mid 2015.
