In June, a severely neglected, pregnant bull terrier, dubbed "Saffron," was rescued in Texas.
Saffron's story of neglect touched many, and now, months later, those who read her heartbreaking story still inquire about how she is doing today.
According to Janice Wolf, of Rocky Ridge Refuge, Saffron has made tremendous progress during her stay at Rocky Ridge.
Not long after Saffron was taken in, she delivered her puppies. Though Saffron was emaciated and her body worn down, she proved herself to be a nurturing, good mother.
Today, Saffron's bones are no longer prominent and there is a new light in her eyes.
When Saffron was initially found, her body was stained from being left to sit in her own urine and feces, her muscles were atrophied and she often stared blankly ahead.
Wolf shares Saffron's demeanor today:
She is very sweet, plays more and more with the other dogs.
Every day brings more 'life' back to her behavior. She follows me everywhere .
There are still a few haunting reminders of Saffron's prior, sad existence; Wolf said:
Still many hings people do that scare her, quick movements and such. Sometimes she seems to be 'flashing back' to the old memories and will tuck tail and lower head and stare at the ground , but I can often snap her out of it now.
Wolf is unsure when Saffron will be ready for adoption - until that time, she is in the best of hands.
