The Nautillus, at 12 Cambridge St is set to open in May and could become Nantucket’s newest destination restaurant. Described on its Facebook page as a “Tapas Bar and Restaurant” and as an “Asian Fusion Restaurant,” the Nautilus has an open kitchen layout and a menu designed to encourage sharing and social interaction.
The menu, by Chef Liam Mackey consists primarily of small plates, but includes crudos, rice and noodle dishes, and several Feasts for 2+ people. The small plates include some fascinating new dishes such as Crispy Pig Eat and Papaya Salad, Taco Tempura of East Coast Oysters and “Philly Style” Japanese Takoyaki dumplings, made up of beef filet, truffle cheese and umami sauce.
The crudo section includes oysters on the half shell, Hamachi Sashimi Mini-Tacos and Yellow Fin Tuna Pizza, and the Feasts include Crispy Black Bass with Chile Sambal, Coconut Rice, and a Thai Style Green Papaya Salad. Another fascinating feast item is the Roast Long Island Duck Dinner, consisting of Ginger Duck Soup with Wontons, Roast Duck with Steamed Buns and House Made Doughnuts with Five Spice Chocolate Sauce.
Meanwhile, Bar Manager Clinton Terry has created an imaginative drink list including “Ack Nauti,” made from Tequila, Cranberry, Lime Bitters and Mint and “Mi Sherry Mon Amie,” made from Cream Sherry, Sherry Vin, Pisco and bitters. Terry has also arranged a wide array of beers including local and microbrews and perhaps their own Nautilus beer.
Finally, there is an extensive wine list curated by Stephen Bowler, of over 200 wines from all over the world, including a number available by the glass because of a wine bottle preservation system.
The Nautilus is scheduled to open the week of May 12th with a special Numanthia wine dinner on Friday May 16. Advance reservations are for 8 or more, but you can make same day reservations for smaller groups at 508-228-0301.
