The musical Spring Awakening may help fearful parents discuss touchy topics

Spring Awakening is a rock musical based on the controversial 1891 German play by Frank Wedekind which was originally banned in Germany due to its extremely controversial content, including masturbation, abortion and suicide. The musical will be opening in Miami at the Arsht Center on May 11, 2010.

Once a controversial play, today the musical opens the door to discussions on the topics many parents typically fear to discuss. This can be a great opportunity for those fearful parents to bring up topics with their young adolescents, topics they may already be discussing with friends. If you care about your teens, as a parent it is highly recommended for you to see this musical. The more you talk to your teens about controversial issues the more you take the fear out of them.

Parents everywhere have been thrilled about this emotional and entertaining musical. One parent, Luann Reid-Siegel, writes, "Spring Awakening is more of a "family" show for teens and their parents than much of the so-called family entertainment currently on Broadway. It certainly entertains, with its unique set, energetic cast, and rockin' score, but it also provokes thought and conversation."

Spring Awakenings opens at the Ziff Ballet Opera House in the Arsht Center on Tuesday, May 11, 2010, at 8pm. Tickets go on sale March 12th and you can purchase ticket at the Arsht Center website. I saw this in New York City with my 16 year old daughter a couple of years ago, and it was great. The music is wonderful.

Controversial - but it sounds thought-provoking as well. Certainly something parents and teens would want to discuss after seeing.
