Disney and Pixar have done it again by creating an animation that can teach our children some of life's most precious lessons early on. Cars is beyond entertaining for it has many hidden messages that Disney still seems to be able to get across to our children that hopefully can stay with them throughout their lives and to always be ahead of their peers when it comes to their outlook on life.
Lightning McQueen is a famous race car that is used to getting everything that he wants, winning trophies, attracting paparazzi, and trying to be more famous than the day before. He thinks that life is all about materialistic things and how famous he is and how he is important because his picture is constantly being taken or if he wins a trophy it will acknowledge his worth as a race car. He lives his life in the fast lane and treats his materialistic things better than he does his fellow race cars and other cars. Well little did he know, that life was going to throw him a lesson that would be tough for him to learn but would change his perspective on everything.
While heading towards a race in California that would make or break his fame, Lightning McQueen accidentally had a slight detour that changed his life forever. It was one of life's lessons that he would have to learn the hard way, which he learned the hard way indeed. He ends up getting lost and stranded in a forgotten town called Radiator Springs where he meets the cars that will change him forever. He brought his fame and materialistic attitude to the town of cars that did not put up with him and through tough pushing and love, eventually made him realize what life was really all about-that life wasn't about fame, getting his picture taken, and winning trophies, but about slowing down to enjoy the view, meeting new cars, and holding other cars higher than materialistic things. Life's detour changed Lightning McQueen and his ways, and changed his outlook on life forever.
This movie is great because it teaches our children that life in the fast lane is no way of living life at all. Why rush the journey of life when they should really stop and just slow down to enjoy the ride? It is not about the destination of where they are going. It's about all of the struggles our children will have to face one day, the good times, the bad times, and all of the times in between that helped them get to where they needed to go one day that makes life truly fulfilling. It's about the people they will meet, places they will see, and experiences they will go through that count more over than just their final destination. Cars teaches our children to slow down and not rush life, for it is so short already.
It is also great for children to watch this movie because it will remind them that they should value people they care about and love over money and other materialistic things or fame any and every other day of the week. Things that should matter in how our children will live their lives one day should be what they can take with them one day when it is their time to leave this life-memories, and the love they had from and for other people in their lives. They can't take cars, houses, clothes, or even trophies with them when they leave, so why not focus more on the things that truly matter in this life?
So curl up on the couch with your family today and watch Disney and Pixar's Cars, to show your children what truly matters in life--the moments you all get to spend together as a family.
