The year 2011 brought thousands of UFO sightings from across the globe. Some UFO sightings were reported directly to MUFON. Many others were shared on social media sites like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. They ranged from the most extraordinary sights like the scorpion-shaped UFO in the sky above Los Cristianos, Spain, to the most common unidentified flying object, the ubiquitous orb seen more than any other type of UFO. Here are some of the most shocking UFO sightings from 2011, in no particular order:
- Shocking footage surfaced of an unidentified flying object over the massive tsunami wave in Japan following an 8.9 magnitude earthquake. Sure, the UFO was later identified as a helicopter, but the original footage had the attention of UFO researchers when it first aired on the news.
- UFO mothership over London declared a hoax; compared to Jerusalem UFO: So, what does this particular UFO sighting have to do with the UFO at the Dome of the Rock Shrine in Jerusalem? Both have been debunked as hoaxes.
- Multiple UFOs were spotted on the live webcam for Sakurajima, one of Japan's most active volcanoes. The UFOs were allegedly huddled around the base of the volcano at the time of the eruption on April 3, 2011
