The most-hated companies in America: ACSI

The American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) has been released for the first-half of 2011, and Americans still have many complaints about many of the companies that they deal with in their daily lives.  Rating among the worst are airlines, cable companies, public service companies, and companies with few alternative choices. 

Here are the 19 Most-Hated Companies for the first-half of 2011 in the USA: 

1 PEPCO - Potomac Electric is an electric company that had 70% more electric outages than its big-city competitors.  The company services the Washington, D.C.-area. 

2 Delta Airlines, the airlines that collected twice as many baggage fees from customers as any other major airlines. 

3 Time Warner Cable is the communications company that has made numerous consumer-irritating errors including the broadcast of porno on a children’s channel. 

4 Comcast, the media communications company has multiple complaints including long waits for repairs and billing changes.

5 Charter Communications, the communications company that has experienced a warning by the Better Business Bureau in recent years for many customer complaints regarding improper billing practices and poor customer service. 

6 US Airways, the airlines with the usual complaints about fees as well as poor ratings for cabin service. 

7 United Airlines, which merged with Continental, had consumer complaints regarding flight delays as well as high baggage fees and customer service. 

American Airlines is another airline that receives poor marks for its baggage fees and customer service. 

9 MYSPACE, the Internet social networking site, continues to battle complaints of privacy of users’ information being inadequate and poor interface workings of the site. 

10 Facebook, the social networking giant, has complaints regarding privacy of users’ information and the cancellation of apps without public warning. 

11 UnitedHealth – The company is accused of denying coverage and mishandling claims.  In 2007 alone, the firm had to pay out $12 million to 37 states for mishandling claims and other errors. 

12 Long Island Power Authority – The power company has had a decade of complaints regarding inaccurate billings of consumers. Reportedly, the billing errors have been in excess of $230 million.   

13 LA Water Department – The Los Angeles company is being accused of billing customers late in order to collect late fees, among other billing concerns. 

14 AT&T Mobility – The phone company’s biggest complaint is dropped calls in heavily-populated areas such as New York City and San Francisco.  Problems have increased a great deal since the company added the iPhone its services. 

15 JP Morgan – The bank receives heavy complaints for absurdly high overdraft fees which have reportedly made it to the federal courts. 

16 PG&E/Pacific Gas and Electric – The company has had many complaints regarding raised rates as well as recklessness.  Deaths have been caused by explosions of which the company has had to pay fines. 

17 Cox Communication – The cable company gets severely criticized for unexpected fees including a reported $480 fee for cancellation. 

18 Dish Network – The cable company gets blasted for their incorrect billing and poor service. 

19 Bank of America – The financial giant receives poor marks from the public for high overdraft and service fees. 

The list released by ACSI has 19 companies listed.
