Did you know that ever since the opera singer Kumiko Mori made the announcement that she had lost 15 pounds on the “Morning Banana Diet", there has been a shortage of bananas in Japan? Morning Banana Diet is said to be the fastest and easiest weight loss diet which is why it has taken Japan over. This diet was created by Hitoshi Watanabe. Is weight loss as simple as just eating bananas?
The Morning Banana Diet consists of only having bananas and room-temperature water for breakfast. For the rest of the day you can eat whatever you’d like, just as long as you don’t eat after 8 pm. There are a few restrictions such as no ice cream, dairy products, alcohol, or dessert after dinner. The only beverage you may have with meals is room-temperature water. Though one sweet snack is allowed towards mid-afternoon.
There are many theories as to how the Morning Banana Diet promotes weight loss. Some theories suggest the enzymes in bananas speed up digestion causing rapid weight loss. But humans already have the enzymes needed for digestion. Other theories focus on resistant starch which is a type of fiber that promotes fullness and increases the fat burning. Resistant starch is found naturally in carbohydrate foods such as green bananas, potatoes, grains and beans while they are cold. What a resistant starch does is it resists the digestion in the small intestine and passes everything along to the bowels. Many are still skeptical about the Morning Banana Diet, though many others seem to have results with it.
