This week brought a special treat for fans of "The Hunger Games" movies. Lionsgate Entertainment has released another official movie teaser for "Mockingjay: Part 1" -- its third installment of the hugely popular Young Adult book series. Each clip released by the studio to date has followed the same PSA-style teaser. In the first clip, President Snow discussed "peace" in Panem. In this second clip, Snow makes his second Panem address to discuss "unity" in the Capitol. The clips are all part of a unique marketing campaign by Lionsgate, complete with YouTube videos from "Capitol TV" and even a Panem domain website of .pn.
In this latest clip, President Snow sits king-like and flanked by both Peeta and Johanna as he announces the solidarity of the districts and the Capitol. The presence of both Peeta and Johanna is undoubtedly being used to support this alleged unity. Unfortunately for Snow (but fortunately for Katniss fans), mid-way through Snow's announcement it seems that all is not as Snow would like us to believe. District 13 and the Mockingjay may have some evidence to the contrary to share with Panem. Watch the full clip for yourself here and be the judge of who is telling the truth.
The first two “Hunger Games” films have proved transformative for Lionsgate. According to Variety, these two films alone have amassed about $1.6 billion in worldwide ticket sales. The extensive marketing campaign for the next two films make it clear that Lionsgate is aiming even higher with its final two installments. The studio’s decision to split “Mockingjay” into two movies followed the success of similar Young Adult book properties like the "Harry Potter" series and the "Twilight" novels.
The final film is set for November 2015 and Mockingjay: Part 1 is is due in theaters Nov. 21, 2014.
