The Mississippi Tea Party, facing mounting frustrations with some lawmakers in this state, are targeting them with the hopes of removing them from office in the next election cycle. Sen. Roger Wicker and Rep. Steven Palazzo, are in the Tea Party's gunsights mainly because of the compromise during the bipartisan debt ceiling compromise, according to John Rhodes, chairman of the Mississippi Gulf Coast 912 Project. Rhodes said despite "brewing discontent"with Palazzo, he wants to give the freshman lawmaker from Biloxi "time to change conservatives minds" before mounting a challenge to him in the March primary. As for Sen. Wicker, patience has run out. Rhodes said the state Tea Party is actively recruiting candidates to unseat Wicker. In my opinion, if the Tea Party is able to unseat one or both of these candidates, then the party will have a big voice and influence in Mississippi politics. People are frustrated with the politicians, and most politicians don't accurately represent the average, everyday person, and most seem out of touch. I am a Democrat, and I will always be, but I am for change more. And if a third party candidate can do the job the traditional politicans haven't been, then so be it!
