The Miami Marlins debut new logo, uniforms

For the most part baseball purists resist change. Even though the Florida Marlins have only been around for 18 seasons, baseball fans had grown accustomed to their Teel and black color scheme. All of that is changing as the team looks to open up its baseball only facility in 2012.

The first change comes in the name. They are no longer Florida's team, but they are now Miami's team. This change came as a concession for the city of Miami helping to construct their new ballpark.

The more dramatic changes are coming to the logo and the uniforms. Gone is the big teal fish, and it its place is a block M with a Marlin to the upper left. The teal is gone replaced with black, orange, blue and white. Gone also are those black pinstripes they use to wear at home. The caps remain predominantly black with the new logo. It seems an orange bill or something could have jazzed them up a bit.

The new uniforms are a pretty plain affair. They feature the name Miami in block letter across the front and are white (home) and grey (away). There are two alternate jerseys that are black and orange. There is also an alternate hat that is orange instead of black. Since two other teams in the state of Florida along feature teal as their main color it seems understandable that the Marlins have chosen to move away from it.
