The Miami Dining Examiner 10 Picks for Miami Spice 2014

Miami Spice is in full swing and lasts for two glorious months- August and September- in Miami. Okay, if readers live in Miami they know August and September aren't exactly glorious (weather-wise), but that's precisely the point. During these summer doldrums, when no one want to visit South Florida, or even venture too far from the air conditioning, Miami restaurants offer a prix fixe menu, with appetizer, entrée and dessert.

Miami Spice has moved away from the two tiered levels (fine dining and casual dining) to a one price fits all of $22 for lunch and $39 for dinner. Obviously, this makes dining at pricey restaurants the best option for Miami Spice, but it's a good idea to take a look at the menu to make sure it's up to snuff.

The Miami Dining Examiner has compiled a list of the restaurants she is most excited about trying during Miami Spice. Some of the most desirable restaurants, unfortunately, don't offer Miami Spice for dinner on Friday and Saturday night. Others offer Miami Spice only for lunch. This is the perfect excuse to become a lady (or gentleman) who lunches, at least for two months.

1) Zuma Miami Spice dinner only on Monday or Tuesday night at this modern Japanese spot in downtown Miami.

2) The Cypress Room Michael Schwartz's new take on Florida cuisine in the design district. Not serving Miami Spice Friday or Saturday night.

3) Katsuya by Starck Dine on unique rolls and sushi in an elegant atmosphere. Not serving Miami Spice dinner Friday or Saturday night, but the menu looks interesting.

4) Icebox Café Fresh, seasonal cuisine served in the Art Deco district of Miami Beach. Miami Spice is available Friday, but not Saturday night.

5) Makota Japanese food in Bal Harbor, but no Miami Spice menu Friday or Saturday night.

6) L'Echon New French restaurant by the Pubbelly folks on Miami Beach, the Miami Spice menu (open for lunch and dinner every day of the week) looks promising.

7) Quattro Gastronomia Italiana This authentic Northern Italian restaurant on South Beach offers Miami Spice for lunch and dinner every day of the week.

8) Red Fish Grill Set in the romantic location of Matheson Hammock, it might be best to get a table inside during these sweltering months.

9) Michael Mina 74 The newest restaurant to grace the iconic Fontainebleau hotel, it offers tapas style modern fare. It's only offering dinner for Miami Spice and not on Saturday night.

10) The Forge Recently updated and helmed by a James Beard award winning, Michelin starred chef, this old school favorite deserves another look. No lunch, but dinner for Miami Spice.
