The Mexican Museum in San Francisco has announced that they have entered into a partnership with the Smithsonian Institute. There are very few museums throughout the country which are affiliated with the Smithsonian, making the partnership a great honor for the museum. Through this partnership, The Mexican Museum will be able to showcase artworks and artifacts from the Smithsonian on loan.
San Francisco Mayor Edwin M. Lee has expressed excitement upon hearing the news of the new affiliation.“The Mexican Museum’s affiliation with the Smithsonian Institution – the world’s largest museum and research complex – will enable San Francisco residents and visitors to view and appreciate works of art that would be only be available to them if they travelled to Washington DC. It is no surprise that several San Franciscan artists in The Mexican Museum’s wonderful collections are also in the Smithsonian’s collections.”
The Mexican Museum will enjoy more than just the chance to showcase items from the Smithsonian on loan, the non-profit will enjoy assistance in identifying resources to accompany future exhibits such as education, performing arts programs, expert speakers, workshops and technical help.
The Smithsonian Institute will also benefit from the partnership as the world-renowned museum will be able to borrow artworks, artifacts and programs from The Mexican Museum in San Francisco to showcase in Washington D.C.
