The Mets Hire New Manager

After almost a two month long process that included 10 interviews has concluded and the Mets have hired Terry Collins as their new manager.

Collins spent 2010 as a minor-league field coordinator for the Mets and has managed for the Astros and Angels in the past.

Among the 10 original interviews, there were 4 'finalists' who came back for 2nd interviews. The 3 that ultimately didn't get the job were Chip Hale, Wally Backman and Bob Melvin. Melvin, former Diamondbacks and Mariners manager, had worked as a scout for New York during the 2010 season. Backman worked as a minor-league manager for the Mets this past season with the Brooklyn Cyclones and Hale was the third-base coach on the big club.

Collins was with Houston from 1994-96 and Anaheim from 1997-99. During that time, he went 444-434.

Rumors are that Collins will likely receive a 2 year deal.

Collins becomes the 20th manager in the 49-year history of the Mets.
