Simply stated, the conscious mind is constantly filtering data and raising questions in response to what we see and hear. That means it can also hinder us from accepting certain facts and integrating new habits to improve our lives. Hypnotherapy helps to quiet the conscious mind and given more direct access to the subconscious. Research indicates it can assist in dealing with various mental disorders, such as depression, grief, stress, anxiety, overcoming habits and even pain control.

Hypnosis, contrary to some beliefs, is not dangerous and does not leave the subject open to brainwashing. The therapist cannot make you harm yourself or perform a criminal act. The only potential problem is the chance of creating a false memory. It is recommended that individuals who suffer from psychotic symptoms or substance abuse consult with a physician before pursuing this form of therapy.

Most practitioners combine hypnosis with CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy). The hypnosis part of a session usually takes 20 to 30 minutes and the process is relatively simple. They consist of bring the client into a state of deep relaxation so they can stay focused on the clinician’s words.
