The men of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. are in Atlanta for the entire week to continue to implement nationwide and international programs promoting brotherhood, scholarship, service and their commitment to humanity. Those meetings are not open to the public, but here are a few public activities you may enjoy. The conclave began Monday with Blackberry’s and Business cards at the Sweet Georgia’s Juke Joint on Peachtree. Tuesday was the Welcome Reception at the Sheraton Hotel Ballroom for dancing, socializing with light refreshments, and I am sure a lot of networking and reunions. Jimmy Hammock is the current International president of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc.
Wednesday night was an opening ceremony, free to the public. The event was held in the Sheraton Grand Ballroom and members of the fraternity were asked to wear dark suits, white shirts and white ties and the notable presentations for the evening included: Kurt Carr, National Gospel Recording Artist; Edolphus Towns, Congressman; John Lewis, Congressman; Decatur Morse, Sr., Son of Founder Leonard F. Morse; Adrienne Walker-Hoard; Granddaughter of First Initiate A. M. Walker; Wesley Carter and the Oldest Living Sigma. A little ducky told me that it was a very nice event and my sorority sisters of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. represented in full force at the request of our national president Cynthia Butler McIntyre.

PHI BETA SIGMA FRATERNITY INC: Phi Beta Sigma (ΦΒΣ) is a predominantly African-American fraternity which was founded at Howard University in Washington, D.C. on January 9, 1914, by three young African-American male students. The founders A. Langston Taylor, Leonard F. Morse, and Charles I. Brown, wanted to organize a Greek letter fraternity that would exemplify the ideals of Brotherhood, Scholarship and Service. The fraternity is the only one of its kind to aid in the creation and hold a constitutional bond with a predominantly African-American sorority, Zeta Phi Beta (ΖΦΒ). The sorority was incorporated on January 16, 1920 in Washington, D.C. For more information visit: www.pbs1914.org
