Pilates instructors are you looking to help your clients with chronic pain issues and take your programming to the next level? Then the MELT Method is just for you.
Created and developed by Sue Hitzman, the MELT Method’s breakthrough technique helps participants eliminate chronic pain, release tight muscles and even slow down and reverse the signs of aging.
I personally had an opportunity to experience the MELT Method and it works. MELT uses what I call a 4R system which includes “Reconnect,” “Rebalance,” Rehydrate,” and “Release,” to help participants identify areas of muscular imbalance, pain, posture deviations and make appropriate changes to adjust and bring the body to proper alignment while alleviating pain.
Reconnect
Reconnect is the first phase of the MELT method and is repeated throughout each phase of the process to insure that changes are occurring in each subsequent phase. During “Reconnect,” we stood then lay down on a mat to identify areas of pain, imbalance, off centeredness or anything that is out of the ordinary.
Rebalance
During the Rebalance phase we repeat the “Reconnect” technique then use a specially designed foam roller to do some gentle rocking deep three dimensional breathing, lay back on the mat to assess changes in the body.
Rehydrate
The Rehydration phase involves rehydrating connective tissues with the use of the foam roller to apply a technique which involves compressing, shearing and rinsing connective tissues to facilitate hydration for proper joint function and motion.
Release
The final phase “Release” focuses on decompressing tensions located in the joints of the body. Using the foam roller the MELT instructor walked us through several techniques to release tension at the base of the skull, the neck and low back, which leaves you feeling mentally clear, alert and relaxed.
When I started the class, I noticed the middle of my back and my pelvic region were lifted from the floor and by the time we completed the class my entire back had gently relaxed on the floor. I was relaxed, mentally focused and free of the minor joint pain that I had prior to class
.
As a Pilates instructor the MELT Method is a precious gift that we can give to our clients. The MELT Method combined with Pilates will help clients feel better, stand taller and experience optimal health and fitness.
