The Melismatics announced on August 30, 2013 that they will be releasing their newest concept album, Rising Tide, which will debut on October 1. Throughout the past decade, the band has release six albums and have experienced intensive recording sessions and heavy touring, while experimenting with their musical styles of post-punk and indie-rock. Rising Tide is about a 21st century man, traveling through his life, from birth through his experiences of loss, love, work, and other life highs and lows. With this unique concept album, the band also introduces new musical territory with new influences from producers Jon Auer of The Posies and Big Star, as well as the band's very own, founder Ryan Smith also produced four of the albums tracks, including the title.

The Melismatics combines husband and wife duo, Ryan and Pony Smith, much in the simliar vein of present, popular duos such as Over the Rhine and The Civil Wars. Ryan is the main songwriter for the duo, and is also a classically trained instrumentalist. Pony was raised by deaf parents is the extravagant one of the duo. Mark Wade plays bass, and his good looks remind women of David Duchovny twin. Rounding out the band is Ron Caron, who plays drums. This band is known for their aggressive and energetic live shows that provide them a strong connection to their audiences, as well as working with some of the best talent in the business. Ed Ackerson, whose work includes Motion City Soundtrack, The Replacements and The Jayhawks, signed them to Susstones Records and produced their two albums, New Infection and Turn It On. Then to top it off, well-known producer, John Fields saw the band performing at 2007's SXSW in Austin, Texas and wanted to produce their next album, The Acid Test, and mixed records, MANIA! and Rising Tide.
Perhaps you've never heard of The Melismatics when put on the spot? I bet you have! Their music has been featured on such hit programs as MTV's "The Hills," "The City," "Laguna Beach," "Friendzone," "Punk'd," NBC's "Windfall," Animal Planet's "Jockeys," TeenNick's "Degrassi," and have played such rock out fests as Lollapalooza, Summerfest and CMJ.
