Seven university buddies are spearheading the feel good event after they got together to brainstorm ideas on how to support the mustache growing charity.
“We met to discuss the idea of organizing a Movember event in the Ottawa community and were able to follow up by planning a full day of fun with The Marshes and our sponsors,” said organizer Kevin O’Neill. “One hundred per cent of the funds raised will go directly to the Movember charity.”
The day gets going at 10 a.m. when the men and women players check in and then head for the tees for an 11:13 a.m. scramble start.
Once on the course they’ll discover the premium track has been shortened to 5,000 yards and that there will be two pins to seek on several holes.
The MOpen will also feature a bunch of special competition holes. In the mix are a speed hole, a Monopoly hole and a Lone Wolf hole. Prizes will be awarded to the top performers in these mini-challenges and the other more traditional ones.
Once the last putt is holed, everyone is invited to head for The Marshes’ Ironstone Grill at 5 p.m. where food will be served and winners can pick up their prizes.
At 6 p.m., the party gets started as an Apres-golf bash kicks off with the Tyler Kealey Trio pumping out the tunes.
Single player registration is $125 per single player and $500 per foursome. These fees include the golf, shared power carts and dinner. Tickets for the Apres-golf are $15 per golf-playing partier and $40 for those folks who couldn’t play in the tournament.
The organizers add that appearance will play a large role in the event. Golfers, men and women, are asked to show up wearing a mustache while being clad in plenty of plaid. Prizes will be awarded for the best costumes.
