The Hood Blimp was witness to the August 19, 2013, Sea Dogs game against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. The good news is the Hood Blimp was able to avoid the fireworks from the lighthouse in center field signaling a Sea Dogs win. Chris Hernandez pitched eight innings to keep the Fisher Cats at two runs. Noe Ramirez pitched the ninth for a Sea Dogs victory of 3 to 2 over the Fisher Cats.
In his first game at Hadlock Field, brand-new Sea Dog Deven Marrero provided a lesson in how to make a 6-3 put out with style. In the top of the first inning, Andy Burns, Fisher Cat third baseman, hit a ground ball sharply to short. Marrero picked the ball, executed some fancy footwork and fired over to first for the out. Welcome to Hadlock, Deven.
In a pregame ceremony, Charlie Eshbach, Sea Dogs President, received the keys to the city of Portland, Maine. Eshbach started with the Sea Dogs when the team began in 1992. He brought his experience and insight to help establish a popular professional baseball team in a state that has six months of winter. No small accomplishment.
The August 20, 2013 game slated for tonight will feature an after the game fireworks display courtesy of People's Choice Credit Union. There are still tickets available for the 6 p.m. start. Remember to bring your glove, and I'll see you at Hadlock.
