The combined seasons of team performance for each individual Atlanta area ice facilities was quite impressive for the 2013-14 season.

The Ice Forum, Cooler, Ice in Cummings, and Marietta Ice Center all received some strong recognition as a result of strong tournament performances.

It is a testament to the superior coaching and work ethic displayed by several youth players that has allowed several Atlanta teams to compete for year-end tourney wins.

The AA Knights Midget team that, coincidentally, suits up many former Atlanta Jr. Thrashers Peewee players surprised a lot of parents and fans by winning the regional title and earning a place at the national championship this year displaying noteworthy teamwork.

Unique in the Atlanta market and somewhat reflective of the new NHL and NBA is the amount of player movement from rink to rink. Lebron James, Chris Bosh and Dwayne Wade all individually decided to play in Miami and the result was Championships.

In more traditional markets youth players often stay with the same teams from Mites to Midgets.
In the NHL the collective bargaining agreement and the salary cap has caused players to move form team to team where once upon a time it would never have happened.

This past season mass player movement has had a huge impact on a Fire team that was competitive the previous year. Conversely, the cross town movement has invigorated the Midget team coached by Daniel Carson and gives the MIC Midget squad a good chance to win all the marbles at the Nationals.

Dominic Yamarino, Mason Bright, Mitchell Bright, Dawson Vangalder, and Davis Middeke all performed for different teams last season. The majority were playing for the Fire, while Middeke played at the Ice Forum for the Phoenix who won the Nationals last season. In all ten players from the 1998 players from that Fire team, joined the MIC hockey organization and are now going to Nationals with the MIC.

Last season the Atlanta Phoenix Midget AA squad beat the Fire for the state championship. The Phoenix team won State last year and continued their winning streak to win the Nationals.

This season the MIC has a mixture of the first place Phoenix squad and the Fire team that came in second in last years state tournament.

Davis Middeke played on the Phoenix National championship team last season and the MIC has a good chance to duplicating that honor for the State again this season.

Game Highlights

Forward Matt Fishman scored 2 goals and contributed an assist and an empty netter. Dominic Yamarino displayed his well-known goal scoring ability netting 2 in the second game.

Davis Middeke scored goals in both the first and second contest. His goal in game one turned out to be the game winner.

Justin Berezinski was very active in the offensive zone earning assists on key goals.

Daniel Hammer and Austin Krusko also netted goals for the MIC.
