The Man Who Wasn't There starring Billy Bob Thornton

Set in Santa Rose in the summer of 1949, this is the story of Ed Crane, a chain smoking barber who's unhappy with his life. He suspects his wife Doris is having an affair with her boss at the retail store she works at. This presents Ed with an opportunity for blackmail that he can use extortion money to start a new business called dry cleaning.

Billy Bob Thornton plays the main character Ed Crane. Frances McDormand as his wife Doris, and watch out for a young Scarlett Johansson in the mix.

While there are aspects of film noir, this is neo noir set in film noir period(with an odd alien segment in there for good measure).

The color scheme of one sided lighting is definitely paying homage and you can see the Coen Brothers showing off the movies they love in here.

The movie was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Cinematography in 2001. Fans of Blood Simple, O Brother Where Art Thou?, and Burn After Reading will get a kick out of watching Coen Brother regular cast and witty writing and direction.
