The magic of 'Wicked' returns to Cincinnati

The highly-anticipated, Wicked returned to Cincinnati’s Aronoff Center for the Arts earlier this month for a March 2014 engagement. The production runs from March 5-23, with an extraordinary cast of characters, including Alison Luff as Elphaba, Gina Beck as Glinda and Nick Adams as Fiyero.

Wicked shares a moving story that mixes drama and comedy in a way that makes it easy for audiences to relate to the show’s heroes and heroines. As conflict arises, cast and audience members, alike are challenged to choose between good and evil. In the end, a positive message prevails as Wicked demonstrates that it’s possible to rise above the odds.

If you are seeing Wicked for the first time, or are returning downtown to see it again, expect a magical production with an outstanding set, complete with spectacular lighting, props and costumes. The cast is equally strong. Whether the characters are on the way to Oz to meet the Wizard, or when they are sitting among their classmates in wizard school, the characters appear believable and real.

Musical standouts include “I'm Not That Girl,” “What Is This Feeling,” “Wonderful,” “No Good Deed,” “Popular,” and “Defying Gravity.”

Ultimately, the show addresses themes of love and friendship, along with a universal message about acceptance.

Diverse audiences will love the show. I would highly recommend it. Wicked proves to be a timeless production when it comes to the outstanding entertainment value and relevant story.

The musical will be in town through Sunday, March 23. Tickets start at $38. For more information, or to purchase tickets, go to www.BroadwayInCincinnati.com. Performance times are Tuesday through Thursday evenings at 7:30 p.m., Friday evenings at 8 p.m., Saturdays at 2 p.m. & 8 p.m. and Sundays at 1 p.m. & 6:30 p.m. (All times are subject to change.)

This year marks the fourth run of the Broadway musical’s tour in Cincinnati with shows previously held in The Queen City in 2005, 2008 and 2011.
