Location: Within the boundaries of the YMCA of the Rockies
As I sit on my front porch, hidden from view, a sprinkle of elfin children meander up the driveway. The youngsters stumble along, eyes down, hands buried in pockets. Vapor mists from their mouths in the crisp morning air.
They reach their destination and stop. They stare in awe.
The fledgling leader takes a hand from his pocket and points. “It’s Santa’s,” he says.
The other children stare, eyes wide.
The leader walks forward and reaches out. His fingers skim a piece of wood. “This is where the reindeer are hooked up.”
There is silence as the children grasp what they are looking at. They walk a respectable distance around the sleigh. They take one last look over their shoulders as they amble away, satisfied they found the summer lair of Santa’s sleigh.
