The Matchbox Children Theatre has been rehearsing the play which represents the old German folk tale, “The Fisherman & His Wife.” The playwright, Joan Sween, is eager to see the Matchbox production. She "assures people who are familiar with the old tale that the greedy wife is still a stronger character but it is the young boy who must fearfully go back again and again to ask even more of the magic fish.” She goes on to say, “I am very excited about how they surmount the technical challenge of having a gigantic fish arise from the sea.”

This play is definitely a family orientated program! Director Angela noted that of the cast of 37 people from ages 7 to adult many of the crew are family members. Moms and children, dads and children, siblings, cousins and even a whole family are working on the play together. Angle stated, “The number of family connections in this production forms a village of its own and shows that there is something special going on with the Matchbox Children’s Theater.”

The Magic Flounder, a one hour production, will be presented in the Historic Paramount Theatre on Friday, February 10 at 7 PM, Saturday and Sunday, February 11 and 12 at 2 PM. After the Sunday performance, the playwright, Joan Sween, will answer any question about writing her first children’s play after writing adult plays and novels! Tickets are just $5 for ages 14 and younger, Adults $7, children 2 and under admitted free. All seating is General Admission. Plenty of tickets will be available at the door but advance tickets are on sale at the Paramount Theatre Box Office, Main Street at Sterling Shopping Center, and HyVee Customer Service.
