Today's rapper too often gets lost in the beat hoping to spit a line catchy enough to be remembered and repeated. Ms Grae isn't too worried about you dancing to simplistic hooks. Dust off your college research skills because she's taking you to school and believe me you will not catch everything she's saying in one listen.
“People have the attention span of gnats. Even if you put out an amazing album, in the next two weeks they’re like ‘Ok, so, what’s next’ (or) ‘Oh my God! That’s classic! That’s so old school!’ That could be f**king January. Is January old school? So taking your time (with an album) versus instant gratification is a good thing. If nobody is doing that then pace the audience… we can put out a single right now and put out another one months later and keep riding it out. If it’s timeless, that’s fine. If it’s for right now then good f**king luck.” -Jean Grae
You never get anything expected or normal from Jean Grae and with things being in the state that they presently nothing feels better then knowing she is around. Musically she's been rather quiet since her release of Dust Ruffle, Dust Ruffle which was a collection of unreleased material spanning 2004 - 2010 but a few days ago via Twitter she directed her fans to jeangrae.com which now display a landing page with the words GOTHAM DOWN CYCLE 1: LOVE IN INFINITY along the top. Jean has referenced Gotham Down as her next project and it looks like new material is on the horizon.
With Miley Cyrus seeing more Hip Hop airtime then most actual rappers Jean can't return soon enough.
