The luck of the Irish is not really luck at all

“Happy St. Patrick’s Day!” “May the luck of the Irish be with you!” These are common greetings uttered throughout this fun holiday. I, myself, have a very fond association with St. Patrick’s Day. Early on in my life, I was told that it was going to be highly unlikely that I would ever get pregnant. On St. Patrick’s Day in 1979, however, I conceived my daughter.

Over the ensuing years, as I matured spiritually, I realized that my good fortune as a mother was dependent on a process far more metaphysically- and scientifically-based than mere luck. I had always wanted a daughter born in December (my favorite month of the year) - - and it is not luck that manifested that reality in my life.

The online Bing Dictionary gives a concise definition of “luck” as we generally think of it – “events determined by chance: things that seem to happen by chance rather than as logical consequences.” New thought teachings, in contrast, tell us that nothing occurs by chance and that there are no coincidences.

Much has been written and taught about the Law of Attraction. The Law of Attraction, which operates whether we are consciously aware of it or not, is a phenomenon of quantum physics, which merges the spiritual and the scientific, and is one of a number of laws that work together to aid us in living our spiritual urgings while working for the highest good of everyone involved. Our bodies and our thoughts vibrate at different frequencies given that we are energy beings, some at lower and some at higher frequencies. These frequencies change as we choose greater negativity or choose to evolve into a more enlightened and positive state of being. We will also attract to us whatever we set our intention on which vibrates at a like frequency.

We, for example, can ask for a committed, honest soulmate, but if we are unable to keep our own promises and habitually tell lies to manipulate others, we will attract a partner that matches that frequency. You cannot have whatever you want without consequences, with no sense of responsibility, and with no level of accountability, as Kathleen McGowan contends in “The Source of Miracles: Seven Steps to Transforming Your Life Through The Lord’s Prayer.” Ultimately, then, utilization of the Law of Attraction is one of our primary tools in accurately assessing ourselves spiritually based on what we attract, in understanding our obligations to ourselves and to others based on the nature of the consequences of what we attract, and in learning to make better choices and raising our personal vibrational levels so that what we manifest is rooted in love.

Three basic steps to manifestation using the Law of Attraction are described in “The Secret” by Rhonda Byrne. The first step is asking for what you want with clarity so that no mixed messages are being transmitted to the universe which can lead to confusion in what is actually being manifested. It is important to focus only on “what” you want, not “how” what you want will come to you as the “how” is the business of the universe. The second step consists of believing with complete faith that you have already received what you want. If your mind is focused on not yet having what you want, you will continue to attract “not having what you want” as the Law of Attraction manifests your dominant thoughts. The third step involves receiving. Live with gratitude and with the happiness of having what you want. This will elevate your vibrational frequency and attract greater good to you.
