The Love Maine Lobster Claw game, catch your own lobster dinner

Think back to the boardwalk, your childhood and those arcade games with the claw to pick up stuffed animals, watches and other slocky toys. Got the picture? Now picture the same machine with live lobsters, using the big metal claw to capture your crustacean du jour. Yup, there is such a machine that holds approximate 30 pounds of lobster in a tank and for $2 you have 30 seconds to capture as many lobsters as you can. (check video below)

The company, Marine Ecological Habitats, has been marketing The Love Maine Lobster Claw to bars and restaurants as seen in this article Phoenix News Times. Initial investment will cost you close to $16,000 with a claim that in 10 months you have recouped your investment. Now they are starting to put them in convenience stores.

Do not condemn the messenger (being me), I am here to inform and you can draw your own conclusions. If you read my column on a regular basis you know that lobsters rate #1  on my food chain but its bad enough they are going to die but why torture them before hand. This seems to be a reverse waterboarding type torture. Watch the video. Comments welcomed.

Hmmmm - doesn't seem any worse for the lobster than getting hauled out of the tank with that wooden rake that they use. Besides, this gives them a fighting chance to get away and live in captivity for another day. Now Dara, since this is your admitted #1 food item, I'd say that your sympathy for the poor crustacean only goes so far, as does mine. I mean, let's not go getting all Buddhist about lobsters, eh? And anyway, at the rate they recoup a hefty investment, I'd say those lobsters are no bargain! Still, in all, a very interesting blog....

You always find the most interesting articles and videos! Thanks for sharing this one. I love to eat lobster too, Dara, but have to say this just seems unnecessary and cruel just for a bit of "fun". What's next? Chasing your chicken destined for dinner around the back yard while trying to spear it?

I too consider lobster one of my very favorite foods, but I don't think I could 'play the game'.....I don't even like to choose one out from a live lobster tank.....just bring me mine to the table already cooked, please....
