The Lost Dutchman Gold Mine recent discoveries: Part 2

One would think going to Weaver’s Needle and traveling in a straight line to Four Peaks , eventually you would find where Dr Thorne saw the two mountains on the opposite ends of the compass.  Eventually, you should run into a canyon that contains the quadrangle of rocks which looked like ruins.  But it was not that easy.  In fact, it was impossible until recently.  Google Earth allows you to go to the top of Weaver’s Needle and fly straight north to Four Peaks.  There is actually a very small corridor in which both can be seen on opposite ends of the compass.  However, if you were on the ground you would have to be on a specific ridge and twenty five yards either way, and Weaver’s Needle disappears.  It is also from this point you can see a square of rocks across the canyon.

A cube of rock was located on a high cliff quite by accident in 1990.  During long distance recon work for an expedition, a researcher was reviewing some pictures taken during the previous expedition.  In one of the pictures, there was a small cave just under a ledge which looked quite interesting.  In the photo there appeared to be a cone shaped crevasse that extended down from the ledge above into the cave.  This was not what was anticipated when he thought of the Dutchman’s Mine being a cone shaped pit going down on the vein, but it did  tweak his interest greatly and it deserved a closer look.

Enlarged photos were ordered.  In the enlargement, there seemed to be a trail coming up from the canyon below.  The researcher set his magnifying glass down and rubbed his eyes.  As he picked the magnifying glass back up, it momentarily focused on a square in the photo.  This caught him by surprise.  Just below the cave there was a square of rock.  Upon closer study, it was not just a square, but a cube!  It was about twice the size of a washing machine.  Squares in nature don’t happen too often.  Cubes hardly ever!  This needed further investigation. Could it be Dr Thorn’s Quadrangle of Rock? Is it a landmark to the Lost Dutchman's Mine? Remember this shape. You will see it again.
