On Monday December 9th, the New York Islanders looked to end a losing streak that has plagued them since the second half of November. After a tight first period, the Islanders seemed to have developed a rhythm going into the second.
Only after a tying goal by the Anaheim Ducks in the middle of the second period did the Islanders play as if they had lost some sort of an edge. The Ducks capitalized on a shorthanded opportunity and not but 31 seconds later found the back of the net once again, pulling ahead of the Islander with a score of 4-2.
After a second intermission the Islanders came out with a bit of urgency, but that flame seemed to be doused after an Anaheim power play goal was scored only seven minutes into the third period. The Islanders would go on to lose 5-2 and continue what would be a 10 game losing streak. The Islanders have one more road game against the San Jose Sharks before they get to head back to the Coliseum to play against the Phoenix Coyotes.
