At 42 years old, Jaormir Jagr has accomplished more in his hockey career than most who will ever lace up skates in the NHL. But when you know your time is closing to an end, and you haven't won a Stanley Cup since 1992, it's understandable how cup-hungry one might be. Jagr was 90 seconds away from a game 7 in the Stanley Cup Finals last season before the Blackhawks scored twice to finish off the Bruins.
This season with the New Jersey Devils, Jagr led the team in scoring with a 24 goal, 67 point year and after the Devils missed the playoffs, Jagr stated he would like to return to New Jersey for 2014-15. Today, he signs a 1-year extension worth between $5-$6 million.
Jagr spent time away from the NHL between 2008 and 2011, playing in the KHL with Avangard Omsk Region where he posted 145 points in 155 games. In his NHL career he's racked up 1,755 points in his 1,473 games which ranks 6th in NHL history for points.
While the New Jersey Devils are just off the pace of NHL playoff contender, for Jagr to commit to a second go around with the organization, there must be something brewing that the Czech legend believes will take him to the top just one more time.
