In the next few weeks, the hype of upcoming video games is going to be running on all cylinders trying to get people to take notice of the new “it” thing. Whether that “thing” is a new video game (i.e. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare 2), new console accessories (i.e. the black Nintendo Wii accessories), or even a new console in general (i.e. Xbox 360 Elite, Black Wii, or PS3 Slim). Today’s article is going to take a look into the most relevant upcoming release dates for the most sought after gifts.
First off, let us take a look at the 3 most sought after video games:
1. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare 2
This game is sure to be on the top of every gamers list this holiday season, that is if they don’t spring for it on launch day. Launch day being November 10th, 2009. This game is a sequel to last year’s smash hit, and is poised to be another huge success. This game offers extensive upgrades to online multiplayer, as well as, single player and co-op modes. For more information regarding the game check out the preview page at IGN.com!
2. Assassin’s Creed II
This is another highly anticipated game on most gamers list. This is another sequel to yet another award winning game of 2008. The most intriguing part of this new game is the gameplay add-ons; new weapons, abilities, and missions are all apart of the planned upgrades. This game is set to be on of the better buys this year, especially for those of us who enjoyed the first one. Assassin’s Creed II is set to drop on November 17th, 2009, just in time for “Black Friday” shoppers.
3. Left 4 Dead 2
Valve’s latest project has caused quite a stir amongst fans of the popular zombie shooter well before the holiday season. Valve has been dealing with boycotters since they announced the plans for a release of the sequel. So much so, that Valve personnel had to meet with the leaders of this boycott and discuss future plans for the older, original Left 4 Dead. There is a lot of buzz about this game and it such a wildcard that I had to put it on the list. Left 4 Dead 2 hits shelves on November 17th, 2009.
Next, look at some of the newest console accessories that are looking to score big with consumers this holiday season:
1. Black Wii Accessories
Nothing really special about these new controls, but they are in a new color. This should not matter to people and they will buy them up. The new controls are exactly like the original ones except instead of white they are going to be black. The Black Wii is set to hit the United States in the coming months. The black accessories are going to be in stores November 16th, 2009.
2. Wii Cyberbike
This is a highly sought after upgrade to your Wii console. Technically this accessory will not hit stores until January 2010, but knowing the industry, we may see this a month sooner, just in time for Christmas. This is bike is going to be bundled with a game that has you set pedaling a heli-bike, whatever that may be, pedaling around the planet cleaning it up. Sounds too much like a workout for me to enjoy, but to each his own I guess.
3. Phillips Wireless HDTV Link
This is not so much a game accessory, as much as, it is an accessory to gaming in general. This little gadget probably could be a best seller with gamers this holiday season. The reason is that this device will allow wireless signals to be sent to up to four (up to Full 1080p HD) TVs, up to 75 feet away, including through walls and other furniture, without wires. It is going to be compatible with all gaming consoles, Blu-ray players, and sound systems. This seems to be a very useful toy for the hardcore gamer. The price however is a little steep for the causal gamer, roughly around $799.
Finally, the upcoming holiday season is offering us a ton of upgraded or bundled console deals. Let’s take a look at the two most notable:
1. Xbox 360 Elite Bundle
This bundle is one that we are sort of used too, but not at a whole lot more reasonable price point. This bundle includes everything that a normal elite bundle is packaged with, including two full games (LEGO Batman and Pure) and four Xbox-Live Arcade titles, but it is marked down by $100. This bundle is currently priced at $299 and available in most retailers. There is also the upcoming Modern Warfare Bundle that comes with the Call of Duty 4, instead of LEGO Batman and PURE. This bundle retails for around $400.
2. PS3 250GB Slim
This is an upgraded to the original PS3 that is lighter, slimmer, and comes with more memory. The new PS3 will have 130 more GB, than that of its predecessor. The new system will hit stores on November 3rd, 2009 and be reasonable priced at about $349.99.
