Jan Cancila, Owner of The Linen House announced today The Linen House will cease linen rental operations after processing orders currently on the books through January 31, 2011. The Linen House will continue to accept new orders for delivery through December 31st and fully honor all existing January orders. No new January orders will be accepted. All orders scheduled for delivery on or after February 1, 2011 will be cancelled. Deposits placed on orders scheduled for February 1st or after will be refunded. Those customers will be contacted directly to make the appropriate arrangements.

Assets for sale

Effective December 16th, The Linen House will offer its entire linen inventory, furniture, fixtures and equipment for sale. The Linen House website, www.LinenHouse.com will have full details including pricing, photos and a full inventory list. Special price consideration will be given to a single buyer wishing to purchase the entire asset list. According to Cancila, such a purchase provides a smaller rental firm the chance to instantly become a very major player or a medium sized firm the ability to leapfrog into a leadership role.

Cancila explained that barring an immediate outright purchase, the linen inventory initially will be sold by collections only (e.g. all the silver satin tablecloths in every size, all the crushed russet diamond tablecloths in every size, etc.). Linens can be purchased in advance of scheduled events but the specific linens for the event will not be released to the buyer until the event is complete. The Linen House website will list the rental firms that acquire the various linen collections both as a convenience to their customers and an added incentive to competitors to purchase the linens. By invitation and/or request, prospective buyers may inspect assets in person at the Montrose Showroom and/or the north side warehouse. Appointments are required.

Status of employees

All employees of The Linen House will remain on the payroll through year end. A limited number of people will remain with the Company into 2011 to assist with the sale of the assets, to deliver and setup the remaining rental orders and to help close down the business. Before year end, The Linen House web site will have information about employees available for work and how to contact them with job opportunities.

Closing Montrose showroom

On December 31st, The Linen House will close its Montrose Blvd showroom and the reduced staff will headquarter in the warehouse for the duration of the shutdown. Current phone numbers, faxes and e-mail addresses remain in effect through year end. Starting January 1st, the warehouse phone number will become the primary phone number for The Linen House. The remit-to, mailing and billing address will change as well. New invoices, e-mails and other correspondence will be updated with the correct address. The Linen House website will contain the most up to date contact information. Email addresses and cell phone numbers for those continuing with the Company will remain the same through the shut-down.

Difficult decision

Cancila said the decision to close The Linen House was extremely difficult to make. She went on to thank the staff members and customers for their support, business, friendship, and loyalty. Cancila further stated she sincerely regrets any inconveniences the decision to close The Linen House may cause customers, employees, suppliers and friends.

Cancila and the staff of The Linen House received many phone calls and e-mails following the announcement. Nearly all the clients and customers expressed their surprise and offered assistance, congratulations on new opportunities and/or interest in purchasing the Company’s assets. Among the many e-mails and comments the staff received are the following:

  • I know this was a hard decision and leaves a big hole in the Houston linen market.
  • I am looking forward to your new venture. You are exquisitely savvy and definitely a visionary. I admire your evolution despite the fact that change is challenging.

  • It was wonderful to work with you all these years.
  • Looking forward to the inventory being listed on the website tomorrow. We have a whole list of favorites we want to buy.

New business venture coming soon

Cancila concluded by urging customers and friends of The Linen House to watch e-mail and the local press for announcements coming in January. Cancila indicates she is pursing a very exciting new business model that will leverage The Linen House experiences, contacts and expertise. This new venture is intended to provide customers vastly increased linen rental options while simplifying the rental experience with an expected launch in Spring, 2011.
